Kinder Morgan

Kinder Morgan is the kind of energy company people usually never see directly because its business sits in pipelines and terminal infrastructure rather than at the pump. By our assessment, that makes it strong in a very concrete way: moving natural gas and other fuels through a large transport network is dull only until it fails, and this sort of company exists to keep that middle layer working. The downside is equally concrete, since pipelines are capital-heavy, regulated, and tied to long industrial cycles instead of quick consumer demand. In practice it is an infrastructure business with a lot of contracts, maintenance, and safety discipline behind the scenes. Against drillers or refiners, Kinder Morgan is less about extracting or processing and more about transporting and storing. The name is most relevant to people who follow North American energy infrastructure, not casual shoppers.
