Johnson Controls

By our assessment, Johnson Controls is at its strongest when it is treated as the sort of company behind building controls, HVAC equipment, fire and security systems, and other hard infrastructure that has to keep working quietly in the background. That mix gives it real reach: it serves commercial buildings, industrial sites, and customers who want systems that are installed once and then maintained for years. The trade-off is that this is not a flashy business, and the value can be hard to see until something goes wrong or a facility needs serious coordination. In practice, it sits in the older, more physical part of the industrial world, closer to maintenance and systems integration than to software-style growth stories. The company's name still carries that broad facilities-and-controls reputation, and the rating reflects a solid, essential kind of business rather than excitement.
