Intesa Sanpaolo

Intesa Sanpaolo sits in the middle of everyday Italian banking: current accounts, cards, mortgages, business lending, and a large branch network for people who still want a bank counter, not only an app. By our assessment, its strength is breadth and reach, with a full-service model that can handle ordinary retail needs and larger corporate business under one roof. The trade-off is the usual one for a big universal bank: plenty of products, plenty of formality, and a lot of steps when a customer wants something beyond a basic transfer. In practice it is the sort of bank where the app, branches, and paperwork all still matter, depending on what is being done. Compared with digital-only banks, it is heavier; compared with smaller local lenders, it has far more scale. Intesa Sanpaolo is based in Italy, and that national retail-and-corporate mix is exactly how it reads.
