Intercontinental Exchange

Intercontinental Exchange sits at the centre of modern market plumbing, where futures, options and clearing matter more than public branding. By our assessment, its real strength is the exchange and clearing infrastructure behind commodities, rates, equities and mortgage-related data through its various venues and services. The trade-off is that this is a technical, regulated business, so it can feel remote and hard to parse unless you already live near financial markets. In practice, ICE is the sort of company most people never see directly, yet it helps set the rules and rails for the trading system around them. It stands alongside CME and other big market infrastructure groups rather than consumer-facing finance brands. That makes it powerful in a narrow way: essential to professionals, mostly invisible to everyone else, and built around contracts, clearing and data feeds rather than a simple product on a shelf.
