Hitachi

Hitachi has long since become more than one product line, and that is exactly what makes it hard to pin down in a single sentence. By our assessment, it is strongest as a broad industrial group with real weight in rail systems, power equipment, elevators, construction machinery and enterprise technology. The strength here is depth: when Hitachi is good, it is good in the boring, expensive places where reliability matters more than marketing. The downside is that the brand is so spread out that many people know it only as a familiar name, not as one clear item on a shelf. In practice, that means a company that works through infrastructure, large systems and long maintenance cycles, not quick consumer appeal. Compared with purely consumer-facing electronics names, Hitachi is more industrial and less visible day to day. By our assessment, the rating is high because the company has real substance in the kinds of things that keep cities, buildings and networks running.
