Greater Tehran Prison

Greater Tehran Prison is another correctional facility, and the plainness of the name tells you almost everything it wants to tell you: this is a detention site, not a public-facing service. By our assessment, the useful way to think about it is as part of the prison system, where custody, security, and administration matter more than any kind of everyday usability. The strength of such an institution is functional clarity; the weakness is the obvious one, that its purpose is restriction and not comfort. In practice the place is defined by rules, controlled movement, and a heavily managed routine. Against ordinary institutions, it has no consumer upside to speak of, and that is simply the nature of the category. Greater Tehran Prison is therefore a starkly utilitarian name for a very closed kind of place.
