By our assessment, that kind of company is valuable because it removes friction for merchants who need cards, batches, settlement, and support for daily sales. The downside is the familiar one for payment processors: fee structures, contracts, and dependence on a stable technical setup can make the relationship feel more like infrastructure than service. In practice it is invisible when it works, then suddenly very visible when a terminal fails or a charge has to be traced. It sits alongside other merchant-acquiring and payments firms, not in front of the customer but in the middle of the transaction. That middle position is exactly what gives it its use and its limits.
