Fender

Fender lives in the narrow space where an instrument becomes a standard shape rather than a one-off purchase. By our assessment, the company is at its best with electric guitars and basses, guitar amps, and the parts and accessories that keep working players going, especially around the Stratocaster and Telecaster line of ideas that everyone recognizes. The upside is clear: the designs are familiar, easy to service, and deeply tied to modern popular music. The downside is that this same familiarity can make the range feel conservative, and not every model fits every hand or style. In practice, Fender means bolt-on necks, bright single-coil sounds, and a huge aftermarket of replacements and tweaks. It sits as the reference point for mass-market electric guitars, not as the most experimental maker, and that is exactly why so many players start there.
