The European Investment Bank matters mainly to governments, public bodies, and large projects that need long-term lending rather than quick retail banking. By our assessment, its strength is the scale and the clear public mission behind the loans and guarantees it provides across the EU framework. The trade-off is that it is not a normal bank for everyday customers, and it does not try to be one. In practice that means loans, project finance, and policy-heavy paperwork instead of simple consumer accounts, which makes it far more technical than a high-street bank. It sits above ordinary commercial lenders in purpose, but it is narrower than a full financial supermarket.
