Emirates

Emirates is the airline people reach for when they want long-haul flying to feel polished rather than merely efficient. By our assessment, its strength is the whole premium long-distance package: wide-body cabins, a strong in-flight entertainment system, polished service, and a hub-and-spoke network built through Dubai. The downside is the price and the distance from the no-frills end of the market; this is not the carrier for someone counting every extra. In practice it feels carefully managed, with a lot of attention given to the cabin experience that business and leisure travellers actually notice on a long overnight leg. It sits near the top of the large global airlines for comfort and brand recognition, and it is often used as the reference point for Gulf long-haul service. Emirates is based in the United Arab Emirates, but what matters more is the scale of the operation and the glossy, highly connected transfer model. It suits people who want long flights to be easier on the body and who accept paying for that layer of polish.
