EDF

EDF sits at the centre of power generation and supply, with nuclear energy as the name most people associate with it and with a big role in France's electricity system. By our assessment, its strength is the sheer weight of that infrastructure: generation, grid-side presence and a national scale that few energy firms can match. The downside is obvious too, because nuclear-heavy utilities are tied to regulation, maintenance and long planning horizons, not quick wins or easy slogans. In practice EDF is a company of contracts, plants, tariffs and public attention, more industrial than consumer-facing. Against smaller suppliers it is much larger and more structural, and against green-only brands it is less simple to explain in a single friendly line. EDF is for people who need the power system to be reliable, not for anyone looking for a light retail brand, and the name carries that heavy utility feel from the start.
