Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens has turned a work boot into everyday clothing, and that is still its strongest trick. By our assessment, the thick soles, yellow welt stitching, and tough leather or vegan uppers make the boots and shoes easy to recognize and hard to confuse with quieter brands. The trade-off is weight and break-in time: they often feel stiff at first, and the look does not aim for subtlety. In practice they suit people who want sturdy footwear with a blunt, unmistakable shape, whether for style or for rough daily wear. Dr. Martens sits between fashion boot and utility shoe, closer to a statement piece than to a plain commuter shoe, and the British origin fits that long boot-and-subculture reputation.
