Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft is the big network airline for people who need many routes, connections, and a long-haul schedule rather than a one-airport niche carrier. By our assessment, its real strength is the hub-and-spoke system: enough destinations, enough frequency, and the reach that comes from a large European airline group. The downside is the familiar one for airlines, because fuel, strikes, weather, and tight margins can make the experience feel much less graceful than the timetable suggests. In practice it is checked baggage rules, seat classes, alliances, and layovers, with the whole machine built around getting passengers and cargo through a dense network.
