Databricks

Databricks is the data platform companies turn to when they need to mix big-data processing, analytics, and machine-learning work on top of cloud infrastructure. By our assessment, its big advantage is the lakehouse approach: it tries to bridge data engineering and data science instead of forcing teams to stitch together separate systems. The downside is that this is still a serious platform, not a lightweight tool; it asks for data expertise, cloud spend, and a team that can handle the setup. In practice it feels like a workbench for large data teams, where notebooks, pipelines, and model work sit close together. Against older warehouse-only setups it is more flexible; against simpler BI tools it is much more technical. Databricks is based in the United States, and the Astrina catalogue notes that country code. It is strongest for organizations with messy, large-scale data and real ML ambitions, and less fitting for small teams that only need basic reporting.
