Costco runs on membership, bulk packs, and a no-frills warehouse floor that turns shopping into a stock-up trip. By our assessment, it is especially good at value per unit, house-brand basics under Kirkland Signature, and a surprisingly useful mix of groceries, appliances, and services. The trade-off is obvious: the selection is narrower, the packs are large, and the model assumes storage space and a willingness to buy ahead. In practice the place feels sparse, efficient, and a little impersonal, which is part of the point. Compared with Walmart or Target, Costco is less about choice and more about disciplined bulk buying, and that is why families and heavy household shoppers keep coming back to it. It stops making sense when someone wants one small item and a lot of variety.
