ConocoPhillips

ConocoPhillips is the upstream end of the oil business: finding, producing, and selling crude oil and natural gas rather than running gas stations or bottling consumer brands. By our assessment, it is strong at scale, with the technical and financial depth needed for large exploration and production operations. The honest cost is exposure to commodity swings and the long, capital-heavy cycle of drilling, development, and reserve replacement. In practice it is a company of fields, rigs, pipelines, and geologists, so most people only meet the result at the fuel pump or in gas bills, not the company itself. Compared with integrated oil majors, ConocoPhillips is more focused on production and less on refining or retail. The Astrina catalogue tags it as a United States company, which matches its place among big American energy names.
