Commonwealth Bank

Commonwealth Bank is the big Australian retail bank that many people reach for when they want a current account, mortgage, card or a mobile app that handles everyday money. By our assessment, its strength is the combination of a huge branch-and-ATM presence with a polished digital platform that has become the default for many customers. The downside is that a bank of this size can feel standardised, with fees, scripts and process everywhere, and little room for warmth. In practice it is the kind of bank that touches daily life through app alerts, card payments and home-loan paperwork. Among Australian banks, it sits right at the centre of the market rather than on the edge. The country code fits Australia, and the whole thing reads as a mainstream banking giant.
