Coal India

Coal India is about one thing first: pulling coal out of the ground at huge scale, then moving it into the power and heavy-industry supply chain that still depends on it. By our assessment, its real strength is the reach of that mining and logistics system, which makes it central to India’s energy picture rather than just another industrial name. The downside is baked into the business: coal mining is dirty work, capital-heavy and tied to a fuel the world is trying to use less. In practice the company means pits, rail wagons, loading yards and a supply chain that has to keep moving even when demand shifts. It sits in a very different place from cleaner energy firms; this is old-line extractive industry, not a transition story. Coal India matters most where steady bulk fuel still counts more than elegance.
