Associated British Foods

Associated British Foods is a food-and-retail group with a very mixed basket: grocery brands, sugar, ingredients, and Primark on the clothing side. By our assessment, its strength is exactly that spread, because it can lean on everyday food volumes while also owning a huge value-retail chain. The limit is that the name does not describe one neat business, so the company can feel less focused than a single-brand rival. In practice it is a group that touches supermarket shelves and shopping streets at the same time, which gives it reach but also makes it uneven to describe. Compared with pure food companies, it is broader and more complicated; compared with pure fashion retailers, it has the steadier food side. Associated British Foods makes sense for people who want a diversified consumer group, and the country recorded for it is the United Kingdom.
