Alipay (Europe) Limited S.A.

Alipay (Europe) Limited S.A. is the European arm of Alipay, built for cross-border payments and merchants who want to take money from Chinese customers through a familiar wallet. By our assessment, its strength is the payments layer itself: it gives businesses a way to plug into a huge consumer payment habit without inventing a new checkout flow. The trade-off is that it is not a universal wallet for everything, and its value depends on where the merchant operates and what payment rails they support. In practice this kind of company sits in the background of checkout, moving money and settlement rather than asking users to learn a new system. Compared with a general bank or card network, it is narrower and more purpose-built, which is exactly why some merchants use it. Alipay (Europe) Limited S.A. makes the most sense for businesses already selling across borders, not for people who just want a simple local account.
