ASE Technology

ASE Technology is a major semiconductor packaging and testing company, the kind of business chip designers rely on after the wafer comes off the fab. By our assessment, its strength is scale in the unglamorous but essential middle of the chip chain: advanced packaging, assembly, and testing for a huge flow of devices. The downside is that this is a specialist industrial role, so it is far less visible to ordinary buyers than the chip brands that sit on the box. In practice, ASE Technology is about precision logistics and manufacturing discipline rather than consumer flair, and that makes it central to modern electronics without being famous in the usual sense. It sits near the top of the outsourced chip-services world, where Taiwan is a real center of gravity. That Taiwanese catalogue tag fits both the business and the geography of the industry.
