Us

Us turns horror into a family story with doubles, and that gives it a sharper edge than a plain home-invasion setup. By our assessment, its best move is the way it uses likeness and repetition to make ordinary spaces feel wrong before anything big happens. The downside is that the concept does a lot of the work, so once the idea is clear the film has to keep earning its tension scene by scene. In practice it plays like a controlled nightmare, moving between domestic comfort and hard panic without much warning. Compared with standard slasher or haunted-house material, it is more concept-driven and more interested in image and social unease. That makes it less disposable than routine horror, even if some of the mystery is front-loaded. The 2019 horror tag is fitting, and the title itself is a neat fit for a film about a self that is no longer comfortably singular.
