The Platform

The Platform is a vertical prison story that uses horror to make hunger, hierarchy, and selfishness feel physical. By our assessment, its real strength is the bluntness of the setup: the rules are simple, the imagery is hard to shake, and the social idea arrives without extra decoration. The trade-off is that the film can feel schematic, because the concept is doing a lot of the work. In practice it is grim, direct, and built to be watched with a steady stomach. Against other horror films, it leans less on jump scares and more on the pressure of the situation itself. The 2019 Horror label fits a movie whose fear comes from an ugly system rather than from ghosts, and that is exactly what it keeps pressing on.
