One Cut of the Dead turns a tiny zombie shoot into a comedy about improvisation, panic, and the mess behind a film set. By our assessment, that is exactly why it works: it keeps finding new comic energy out of one simple setup, then keeps paying it off. The pleasure is in the way it retools the same situation again and again without feeling lazy. The trade-off is that the surprise structure matters, so the less you know going in, the better it lands. In practice it feels playful, fast, and a bit like watching a machine discover a joke in real time. Compared with standard zombie comedies, it is far more about filmmaking chaos than gore or parody. One Cut of the Dead is for viewers who enjoy smart, shape-shifting comedies and do not mind a film that keeps changing what kind of joke it is telling.
