Le Samouraï is crime cinema pared down to routines, silence, and a man moving through a city like a fixed habit. By our assessment, its great strength is precision: the spare storytelling, controlled mood, and cool visual discipline create a very exact kind of tension. The downside is just as plain, because the film keeps emotion at a distance and can feel austere if a viewer wants warmth or momentum. In practice it is slow, measured, and full of small gestures that matter more than explanation. Compared with louder crime films, Le Samouraï is drier and more severe, but that severity is the point. It rewards patience and attention to shape; if you want noise or easy reassurance, it will leave you outside the glass.
