Jaws

Jaws is the rare adventure film that turns waiting into pressure, with the sea itself doing half the work. By our assessment, its real strength is how carefully it delays the shark and lets dread build from sound, glances, and the feeling of open water. The limitation is also part of the design: it depends on tension, so anyone wanting constant movement or easy comfort may find it punishing. In practice it feels spare, controlled, and much more anxious than a simple monster movie. Compared with later creature pictures, Jaws still sits near the top because it understands that suggestion can be scarier than display. The 1975 adventure label fits, but the film uses it to make danger feel immediate and human.
