Get Out turns social discomfort into horror that stays sharp instead of just loud, which is why it landed so strongly as a genre film. By our assessment, its real power is the way it keeps ordinary conversation tense; the movie uses small social signals, awkward politeness, and the pressure of being watched to build dread. The downside is that once you know the shape of the mechanism, some of the surprise goes with it, and the film has to keep pushing its ideas rather hard. In practice it is the kind of horror that works as a thriller of manners before it becomes anything more physical. Against straightforward slasher films, it is smarter and more controlled, with the scares coming from social rules as much as from images. The 2017 film is a strong pick for viewers who want horror with ideas sitting right inside the fear, and it keeps that edge without turning into a lecture.
