Carrie

Carrie turns teenage humiliation into horror that still feels sharp, because the film keeps the cruelty ordinary until it suddenly is not. By our assessment, it is a compact horror movie for viewers who like their genre rooted in a real school-life pressure rather than in decorative monsters. Its best quality is the slow, uneasy build: embarrassment, bullying, and the sense that something is off long before the violence starts. The trade-off is that it is not a glossy shock machine; its power comes from restraint and from the long wait before the release. In practice it feels tense, awkward, and a little sad, which is why the final explosion lands so hard. Carrie sits near the center of classic horror, and people who want mood and consequence get more from it than people chasing fast scares.
