Always Be My Maybe

Always Be My Maybe has the easygoing shape of a modern romantic comedy, but it is strongest when it lets workplace awkwardness and old feelings sit next to the jokes. By our assessment, it gets a lot from chemistry, contemporary San Francisco texture, and the familiar rom-com rhythm that keeps it light without becoming flimsy. Its limit is that the story stays within a pretty recognizable genre lane, so the surprises are modest rather than radical. In practice it is warm, fast-moving, and built around dialogue that can turn from teasing to sincere very quickly. That places it above generic streaming filler and below the kind of romantic comedy that changes the rules. People looking for a gentle, polished crowd-pleaser will find the right shape here, and the movie keeps its promise without straining for more.
