Ys Origin

Ys Origin keeps the old Ys idea of fast action and tight movement, but strips it down to a single tower crawl with two playable routes and a lot of boss timing. By our assessment, it is best for people who want a compact action RPG that cares more about reflexes and pattern reading than about sprawling systems. The combat feels brisk and clean, with constant dodging, jumping, and keeping a close eye on enemy tells. Its strength is the speed and clarity of the fights; its limit is that the story and structure are much leaner than in bigger role-playing games. The soundtrack and art style also give it a strong identity even when the setup is simple. If someone wants a long, flexible RPG sandbox, this is not that. It rewards short bursts of focused play and a willingness to learn boss patterns.
