Yakuza 5 Remastered

Yakuza 5 Remastered is at its best when it lets the series do what it does best: street fights, side stories, minigames, and a city that keeps throwing odd jobs and stranger detours at you. By our assessment, the appeal here is breadth, not elegance; there is a lot to do, and the remastered release makes one of the bigger Yakuza entries easier to revisit on modern hardware. The downside is the same breadth, because the game asks for patience and can feel scattered as it jumps between characters and activities. In practice it plays like a dense urban novel with brawling on top, where one minute is a serious confrontation and the next is a karaoke room or another distraction. Compared with smaller action games, it is messier but far richer in texture. It suits players who enjoy getting lost in a city full of side content, while anyone who wants a lean beat-’em-up will find the detours constant.
