X-COM: Enforcer is the odd one in the old X-COM name, because it drops the careful strategy of the series for a more direct action-shooter approach. By our assessment, that shift gives it immediate motion and a clear sense of blasting through alien-infected spaces, which can be satisfying on its own terms. The downside is that fans looking for the methodical tension of the classic X-COM formula will find something much thinner here. In practice it is a game about moving fast, shooting often, and not expecting the deep squad management that the name suggests. X-COM: Enforcer sits as a side branch rather than a true replacement, and that mismatch is the main thing to know.
