Witchaven is a first-person fantasy shooter for players who want old-school dungeon crawling with swords, spells, and a lot of hostility in the walls. By our assessment, its appeal is the raw blend of melee combat and magical firepower in a grim, narrow corridor structure that feels very much of its era. The honest limit is that this kind of game can be clumsy by modern standards, with harsh difficulty and a rougher edge than newer shooters or action RPGs. In practice it tends to be about slow room clearing, constant danger, and learning the layout rather than breezing through encounters. It sits closer to early PC action than to polished fantasy adventure, and the low-margin combat is part of the package.
