Weird West: Definitive Edition

Weird West: Definitive Edition is a top-down action RPG for players who like systems to collide: gunfights, stealth, loot, and odd little side stories all sit on the same map. By our assessment, its best quality is the way it turns a western setting into an RPG sandbox, so wandering off the main path often feels as important as the main quest. The downside is that the game can be busy in a way that dilutes its own mood, and the camera distance keeps some of the drama at arm’s length. In practice it plays like a series of reactive encounters, with inventory, builds, and faction trouble doing a lot of the work. Compared with cleaner action RPGs, it is messier and more open, but that mess is part of the appeal. Weird West: Definitive Edition suits people who enjoy improvising inside a rules-heavy world, while players who want a sleek, focused western story will find it less satisfying.
