UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold

UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold is a squad-based UFO defence game for players who like base management, turn-based firefights, and the pressure of watching the map while the rest of the planet is also at risk. By our assessment, its strength is the straightforward tactical loop: build up a defence, send soldiers out, and make careful decisions under constant strain. The downside is that these old-school strategy games can feel unforgiving and a bit clunky if someone wants modern hand-holding or slick interfaces. In practice, it asks for patience with inventories, positioning, and the slow burn of a campaign rather than quick spectacle. It sits in the same broad lane as classic X-COM-style games, which is exactly why it will appeal to fans of that formula and bounce off players who want a cleaner, faster strategy experience. The Gold version signals a more complete edition of that kind of game, but the basic feel remains old-fashioned and deliberate. It is the sort of title that rewards planning more than reflexes, and that is the whole point.
