Total Annihilation is remembered as a landmark real-time strategy game for players who like commanding armies, managing economy, and thinking several moves ahead. By our assessment, what it does especially well is scale: battles can become large and busy without losing the feeling that every unit matters. The honest downside is that this kind of strategy can be demanding, because economy, production, and battlefield control all need attention at once. In practice it has the old-school RTS texture of building, queuing, scouting, and then watching a fight unfold across a broad map.
