Torchlight III

Torchlight III is an action RPG that asks for loot sorting, skill picks, and a steady stream of monster fights, so the appeal is mostly in running builds and watching numbers and gear change. By our assessment, its main strength is the familiar Torchlight style: bright effects, readable combat, and a straightforward loop of quests and drops. The trade-off is that it sits in a crowded part of the genre, where it has to justify itself against stronger and better-known dungeon crawlers. In practice it is the sort of game that works best in short bursts of clearing areas and tweaking equipment. Torchlight III is not trying to be a deep, demanding systems game, and the ceiling is set by how much patience a player has for repetition and inventory work.
