Tooth and Tail

Tooth and Tail is a real-time strategy game that trims the genre down to short matches, a simple economy, and direct control of troops instead of piles of build orders. By our assessment, that makes it one of the easier strategy games to read at a glance, especially for people who like tactical skirmishes more than base management. The downside is that the simplification also cuts away some of the long-form planning and economic depth that genre fans often want. In practice it feels brisk and a little scrappy, with matches that reward sharp positioning and timing over grand construction. It sits between classic RTS ideas and a more streamlined arcade pace, which gives it a clear identity but also narrows its audience. Tooth and Tail is best for players who want strategy without a lot of overhead, and less so for anyone looking for the layered economy of the old big RTS names.
