Tomb Raider: Underworld

Tomb Raider: Underworld is at its best when it lets Lara move through large spaces, read the room, and solve environmental puzzles with climbing, ledges, poles, and underwater routes. By our assessment, that mix of exploration and puzzle-platforming is exactly why the game still has a place in the series: it cares about movement and spatial reading more than constant combat. The downside is that it belongs to an older action-adventure style, so the controls and camera can feel dated next to newer entries. In practice it is a game of pacing yourself through ruins, circling back to inspect what the level is really asking for, and then pulling off a sequence cleanly. Compared with modern Tomb Raider titles, Underworld is more platform-first and less cinematic survival drama. People who like classic traversal and environmental puzzles will get the most from it, while anyone wanting modern polish may feel the age at once.
