Three Dead Zed

Three Dead Zed starts from a blunt, ugly joke and uses it to frame a fast action game. By our assessment, it is a brawler or side-scrolling action game with a zombie angle, and the appeal is immediate for anyone who likes direct, messy combat. The best thing about games like this is how quickly they get to the point: movement, hits, crowd control, repeat. The downside is also plain, because once the combat pattern is understood, the ceiling is set by enemy variety and stage design. In practice, this kind of game feels good when it is responsive and bad when it is sticky or repetitive. It sits among compact indie action titles rather than large horror works, so it is more about pressure and rhythm than about fear. By our assessment, Three Dead Zed is a sensible pick for players who want short bursts of arcade violence, and it stops being interesting if they need long progression or deep systems.
