The Westport Independent

The Westport Independent is strongest when it treats newspaper editing as a system of pressure, where headlines, wording, and omissions shape what reaches print. By our assessment, that makes it a smart choice for players who like political or editorial games and enjoy feeling the squeeze between principle and survival. Its limit is that the whole experience is built around a narrow premise, so once the newsroom routine is understood there is not much mechanical variety to hide behind. In practice it is more about choosing what to allow into the paper than about spectacle, and that makes the decisions feel pointed and uncomfortable in a good way. Compared with broader management games, it is smaller and sharper, with a much more specific moral angle. The Westport Independent works best as a compact editorial game, not as a sprawling simulation.
