The Stronghold Collection

The Stronghold Collection bundles the castle-building strategy games for players who want the older Stronghold feel without chasing each title separately. By our assessment, what it does well is preserve the mix of fortress construction, economy management, and siege warfare that made the series stand out. The downside is that this kind of collection inherits old interfaces and older design habits, so it can feel creaky beside newer strategy games. In practice it is about laying walls, feeding a settlement, then watching the siege engines and arrow slits do their ugly work. It sits as a history-minded package more than a modern overhaul, which is useful if the point is access to the classic games in one place. The name tells you to expect preservation, not a remake, and that is exactly where its appeal ends and its ceiling begins.
