The Song of Saya

The Song of Saya is remembered more for its reputation than for easy company, and that already tells you the kind of visual novel it is. By our assessment, its main strength is the very specific mood it creates through horror, romance, and a steadily warped point of view. The trade-off is that its material is deliberately extreme, so it is not something to approach for comfort or light reading. In practice, a game like this asks for patience with slow revelation and a willingness to sit inside discomfort for a long stretch. Compared with gentler visual novels, The Song of Saya is far less about warmth or choice variety and far more about an unpleasant premise pushed hard. It is for readers who want horror fiction in visual-novel form and can handle heavy content, while anyone looking for something easy or broadly welcoming should look elsewhere.
