The Ouroboros King

The Ouroboros King turns a familiar snake-biting-its-tail symbol into a tactics game, and that odd match gives it a lot of its personality. By our assessment, it is strongest when the loop-building idea and the board-game feeling are working together, because then each decision has a neat bit of momentum behind it. The downside is that this kind of design can become dense fast, since tactical games always ask for more attention than they give back in spectacle. In practice, it is the sort of game where positioning, order of actions, and reading the board matter more than speed. It sits between chess-like strategy and deckbuilding or roguelite structure, so players who enjoy planning tend to get more out of it than people wanting instant payoff. The Ouroboros King is not trying to be relaxed background play, and it stays interesting when the loops, units, and board state keep asking for one more careful move.
