The Longing Mobile

The Longing Mobile is for people who can accept waiting as the main mechanic, because the whole game turns time, patience, and small routines into the core of the experience. By our assessment, that is exactly what it does best: it makes the passage of time feel deliberate, with a lonely atmosphere and a strong sense of being stuck in one place. The drawback is equally plain, since the pace is so slow that anyone looking for constant action will bounce off immediately. In play it feels like checking in, making a tiny choice, and then leaving things to continue on their own. It sits well apart from ordinary adventure games and closer to experimental idle design. The Longing Mobile asks for attention to mood more than to mechanics, and that is its real ceiling.
