The Land of Dasthir

The Land of Dasthir sounds like the sort of game that lives or dies on its worldbuilding, and that is both its attraction and its risk. By our assessment, the name suggests a fantasy setting that depends on exploration, lore, and a strong map in the player’s head, which can be rewarding when the writing and structure are clear. The downside is that a world-first game needs real substance behind the setting, or it turns into scenery with little pull. In play, that usually means reading, wandering, and taking in systems slowly rather than looking for immediate spectacle. It will sit best with players who like to settle into a setting and piece it together; people who want a sharp hook or a fast loop may not find much to hold onto. The Land of Dasthir is the kind of title where the setting has to carry a lot of weight.
