The Descendant

The Descendant is the kind of adventure game that lives or dies on story setup rather than mechanical depth. By our assessment, it is strongest when it leans into its post-apocalyptic mystery and forward-driven chapters, because that is where its identity is clearest. The limit is that this sort of episodic, narrative-first design can feel narrow if someone wants elaborate systems or a lot of player freedom. In practice it is about reading, choosing, and moving through scenes more than mastering action. Against heavier adventure games it looks more like a story vehicle than a big toy box, which may be exactly the point. The Descendant is for players who want a plot-led game and do not mind a modest mechanical footprint, and it is not the place to go for deep systems or open-ended play.
