The Council

The Council is a narrative adventure that asks for reading, social pressure and careful choices rather than reflexes. By our assessment, its strongest feature is the way it treats dialogue as a system: you question people, manage clues and skills, and try to steer conversations toward usable answers. The downside is that this kind of game lives or dies on pacing, and when the story moves slowly the structure can feel more stiff than dramatic. In play it has the texture of a political mystery with a lot of talk and a steady sense that every exchange matters. Compared with lighter story games, it is more deliberate and more focused on deduction and persuasion than on action. The Council is for players who like story-first games with role-play hooks and do not mind a lot of talking between decisions.
