The Coin Game

The Coin Game builds its whole appeal around throwing coins, feeding them into arcade machines, and wandering a small-money sandbox that is more about novelty than depth. By our assessment, its charm is the physical feel of the coin handling and the arcade clutter, which gives the game a very specific toy-box mood. The limitation is obvious: once the novelty of the machines and routines wears off, there is not a huge amount of structure underneath. In practice it is the sort of game people poke at for its odd little systems, not for a long, tight campaign. Compared with fuller life sims or management games, it is thinner and more playful in shape. The Coin Game is for someone curious about the premise first and the progression second, and it stops being interesting when that premise stops being enough.
