The Callisto Protocol is a survival-horror shooter built around cramped corridors, close-range fights, and a lot of pressure to manage space before enemies get on top of you. By our assessment, its strongest point is the heavy atmosphere and the deliberate, punishing melee feel, which makes each encounter feel physical instead of loose. The trade-off is that the combat can feel stiff, and the game leans hard on repetition once the rhythm becomes familiar. In practice it is about slow movement, ammunition anxiety, and a constant sense that the room itself is part of the problem. Compared with the older giants of the genre, it chases polished presentation more than deep systems, so it lands closer to a tense action-horror ride than a clever survival sandbox. The Callisto Protocol is for players who want grim sci-fi horror with a strong visual shell, and not for people who want freedom or a very forgiving fight model.
